Cybercriminals hacked Noida based bank
Cybercriminals have now targeted banks, leaving even financial institutions unsafe. In a shocking incident, cybercriminals hacked the RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) channel of a bank in Noida and took off approximately Rs16.5 crores. Following the discovery of the fraud, the bank lodged a complaint, and the cybercrime police station is currently investigating the case. A special investigation team has also been formed.

The incident took place at a branch of Nainital Bank located in Sector 62, Noida. The cybercriminals hacked into the RTGS channel, obtained the manager’s login credentials, and transferred around INR 16.5 crores to 89 different accounts. This theft occurred between June 16 and June 20.

Sumit Kumar Srivastava, the IT Manager of Nainital Bank, filed a complaint at the cybercrime police station. In his statement to the police, he mentioned that during the reconciliation of the bank’s balance sheet in June, a discrepancy of INR 3,60,94,020 was noticed on June 17 during the regular settlement of the RTGS account with the RBI. After several days of attempting to reconcile the balance sheet, the fraud was uncovered.

It is reported that the cybercriminals infiltrated the bank’s server and executed the hacking. The IT manager of the bank has registered a case at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 36. ACP Cyber Crime Vivek Ranjan Rai stated that the bank’s server was hacked, and the manager’s login credentials were compromised, resulting in the theft of approximately INR 16.5 crores. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the amount was transferred to 89 accounts. A team has been formed to investigate the matter, and the details will be disclosed soon.
