Vibhakar Shastri, the grandson of ex-Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, has left the Congress party and announced his new affiliation with the BJP via a tweet. In his message, he formally notified the Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, of his resignation from the party’s primary membership. His induction into the BJP was marked by the presence of Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, along with other prominent BJP figures. This political move comes just ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In a statement, Vibhakar expressed his belief that joining BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership would enable him to better fulfill his grandfather’s vision of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”. He thanked key BJP leaders, including Narendra Modi, JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath, and Brajesh Pathak, for welcoming him into the party. Shortly after his transition, Vibhakar criticized the Congress for lacking a clear ideology and focusing solely on opposing the Prime Minister, challenging Rahul Gandhi to clarify the party’s principles. This development is part of a broader trend of party defections, highlighted by the recent exit of Maharashtra’s former Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, from Congress to join the BJP, signaling a significant political shift ahead of the upcoming national elections.
