Recently, an image showcasing the license plate of the car used by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, sparked considerable interest and discussion across social media platforms. The car, a Mercedes, bears the distinctive registration number DL1 CJI 0001. This photo was first shared by angel investor Lloyd Mathias on X, capturing attention with its unique number. Mathias mentioned encountering Chandrachud at a private event in Delhi and being captivated by the car’s license plate, musing whether a similarly patterned number would be assigned to the Chief Election Commissioner’s vehicle.
The special number plate surprised many online, but it was later clarified that as the Chief Justice of India, Chandrachud is privileged to use this vehicle, which is officially registered under the “Registrar Supreme Court of India.”
In other news related to Chief Justice Chandrachud, he has been in the limelight for advocating the extension of legal education to isolated rural regions. His proposal aims to democratize access to legal education, ensuring that students from small, remote communities have the opportunity to pursue careers in law.
During the opening ceremony of Dr. Rajendra Prasad National Law University, Chandrachud emphasized the potential of technology to bridge educational gaps and criticized the current legal education system for its bias towards English-speaking students from urban areas.
