Soon, a floor test will be held to establish the majority of the Champai Soren government in Jharkhand, which was established last week following a severe political crisis sparked by the arrest of previous Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The assembly’s majority score was 41.
During his speech in the Assembly, Champai Soren charged that the BJP was attempting to topple the Jharkhand government, which was elected legitimately. A significant accusation was made against the Governor by party colleague and former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who claimed that Raj Bhavan was “part of the conspiracy” that resulted in his detention.
Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrived at the Assembly this morning to vote in the majority test while escorted by police. On Saturday, a judge gave the imprisoned JMM leader permission to cast a ballot.
The JMM holds 29 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, Congress, its ally, has 17, while RJD and CPI (ML) have one seat each. The total is 48. In contrast, the “All Jharkhand Student’s Union”, an ally of the BJP, has three MLAs, while the BJP has 26.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, one of the JMM MLAs, has already resigned. The Assembly now only has 80 members as a result of this. The current majority score is 41.
