In the ongoing Test match between India and England in Rajkot, Ravichandran Ashwin has reached a significant milestone by claiming his 500th wicket. This achievement comes after he finished the second Test in Vizag with 499 wickets. On the second day of the third Test, Ashwin reached the historic mark by dismissing Zak Crawley.
Ashwin now joins Anil Kumble as the only Indian bowlers to surpass the 500-wicket mark in Test cricket, making him the ninth bowler globally to achieve this feat. Among the top spinners in Test history, he follows the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, and Nathan Lyon.
Remarkably, Ashwin becomes the second-fastest player in Test history to reach 500 wickets after Muttiah Muralitharan, achieving this milestone in just 98 Test matches. In contrast, it took more than 100 Test matches for each of the other seven bowlers who reached the 500-wicket milestone.
Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin’s colleague, made a light-hearted remark about Ashwin’s “destiny” to reach this milestone at Jadeja’s home ground in Rajkot, adding a touch of humour to the accomplishment.
