A Kerala school pioneers the future of education by welcoming India’s first AI-powered robotic instructor, Iris, marking a significant leap towards integrating innovative technology into learning environments. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech, Iris stands as a pioneering humanoid robot teacher, introduced by the Kaduvayil Thangal Charitable Trust’s KTCT Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram.
The initiative is part of the 2021 NITI Aayog’s Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project, aimed at enhancing extracurricular learning in schools. The unveiling of Iris last month has sparked considerable interest, highlighted by a video shared by Makerlabs on Instagram, showcasing the AI teacher’s multilingual capabilities and its ability to tackle complex questions across various subjects. Equipped with wheels for better mobility, Iris promises to bring interactive and personalized learning experiences to students.
Makerlabs Edutech, in their announcement, expressed enthusiasm for Iris, emphasizing its role in revolutionizing educational methodologies. The introduction of Iris into the classroom is set to transform the way students engage with their studies, offering tailored educational experiences that cater to diverse learning styles.
As Iris integrates into Kerala’s educational framework, it provides a glimpse into a future where AI could play a pivotal role in supporting educational delivery. While the long-term impact of such technologies in education remains to be seen, the introduction of Iris as a robotic tutor is an exciting development in the quest for innovative and inclusive learning solutions.
