In a shocking case of ragging, five third-year nursing students from Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala, have been arrested for subjecting their juniors to brutal physical abuse. The disturbing incident came to light after three first-year nursing students filed a formal complaint, revealing horrifying details of the torture they endured.

According to the police, the victims were allegedly forced to strip naked while their tormentors’ clicked pictures. But the cruelty didn’t stop there—dumbbells meant for weightlifting were reportedly hung from their private parts, causing immense pain and trauma. The seniors also used compasses and other sharp objects to inflict injuries on their juniors, only to later apply lotion to the wounds as part of their twisted ritual.

Adding to the humiliation, the victims were made to smear cream on their faces, heads, and even inside their mouths. The complaint also revealed a pattern of extortion, with the seniors allegedly demanding money from the juniors every Sunday to fund their alcohol consumption.

The ragging had reportedly been going on since December last year, but the victims mustered the courage to confide in their families only recently. Following their disclosure, college authorities conducted a preliminary investigation before alerting the police.

The arrested students—Rahul Raj, NS Jeeva, NP Vivek, Rigil Jeeth, and Samuel Johnson—now face serious legal consequences. A case has been registered against them under Sections 118(1), 308(2), and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act.
